Mother 3's Lucas

After playing this on the visual boy advance, I thought this guy, Lucas, could use a match, but I would probably need to show feats.

Hey, what a surprise! I was planning on making a respect thread a while back for the Mother series after reading something about Giygas. (I hinted it at FP a while back, although I didn't want to mention anything out of fear someone might make a respect thread before me.) In fact, I would have loved to see Giygas face off against some other character, as I read he's on a universal tier and an abstract entity in Mother 2. Anyway, I didn't know these videos for Lucas existed, but I think we should contextualize them before taking them at face value.

Since it can be dodged, it's a questionable feat.

That it alerts you and slows down makes me think this never happened in the story, as you are supposed to dodge.

I don't find this at all impressive, really. The reason is because humans get struck by lightning all the time (I'm exaggerating) and they end up surviving anyway. It would be a leap to say the electrical discharge is on par with a lightning bolt. At the same time, people do survive lightning strikes, and in another video Lucas becomes unconscious after being struck by a lightning bolt. This really isn't a durability feat, either, as Lucas appears to be harmed. Finally, with the Franklin badge, electric attacks become irrelevant.

That's interesting. I'm curious where you found the number to know this is a 100 floor drop.

I'm not sure what to say about this.

I'm not sure about this, either. It's occurring during game play.

Porky says that he is at the 100th floor IIRC.

I do know that it's unavoidable and has to happen no matter what, granted, they could have actually used Shields.

I'll edit some stuff out though since you corrected me.

All right, so the building is 100 floors. That doesn't tell me how many meters or kilometers the building is, but fortunately I looked for a building that is 100 floors, and I found a building called Kingkey 100. This building is 441.8 meters. I'm going to ignore the elevator and pretend Lucas fell 441.8 meters. Time for some fun! One source said the average weight for a 12 year old is 100, and another said 85 (low end), and another 83. 100 + 85 + 83 = 268 / 3 = 89 lbs., or 40 kg.

  • Gravity is 9.8 m/s².
  • 100 floors is 441.8 m.
  • 441.8 * 9.8 = 4,329.64
  • 4,329.64 * 2 = 8,659.28
  • The square root of 8,659.28 is 93.06 m/s, or 207.95 mph. That's Lucas' velocity.
  • 8,659.28 * 40 = 346,371.2
  • 346,371.2 * 0.5 = 173,185.6. This is Lucas' kinetic energy.
  • 173,185.6 / 0.01 = 17,318,560 Newtons.

Alpha or Omega wrote:Wow thanks. About that lightning thing, are you sure that most of the time, people can survive getting hit by lightning? There was once a lightning storm during a soccer game, and five people went under a tree. Three died and two were sent to intensive care.

You're welcome. I wish I could figure how many joules that is, and since I'm using kilograms, I would focus on looking for kilograms per force and then convert that to tons if that's the correct way to go about it.

Hiding under a tree during a thunderstorm is dangerous. Surviving a lightning strike varies, but it's possible. I'm not sure if some are directly hit and then die, while others aren't directly hit and survive. Lucas and Co. should have some side-effects after being struck, but I don't know if the people focused on that, and if they did, well, I guess Lucas and Co. are completely unharmed. Like I said, though, Lucas has the Franklin badge. Kind of reminds me of the discussion I had at another message board with Samus and Ness, and that the Wave Beam from the Prime series would be ineffective. Good times.
