Energy Output

I. Plasma Pistol
--------------------------------------------------------
- Bolts explode on impact:
Spoiler
“The lieutenant appeared beside the inquisitor, leveling his pistol and firing two quick shots into the incoming mob. Bolts of superheated plasma blew the lead cultists apart.” Tales from the Dark Millennium, p.162 - **

- Multiple energy outputs:
Spoiler
“To his right, he levelled his plasma pistol and fired twice, point-blank, into the press. Aliens burst apart, vaporised by intense blasts of ionised gases or set alight by secondary thermal effects.” Horus Heresy: Tales of Heresy, p.84 - **

- Plasma pistol incinerating a man and leaving only bits behind:
Spoiler
“A ball of flickering blue plasma erupted from Hephaestus' pistol to his left, punching through a stanchion and incinerating the man cowering behind it, his steaming arm and head flung messily to the deck.” Angels of Darkness, p.168 - **

II. Plasma Gun
--------------------------------------------------------
- Bolts explode on impact:
Spoiler
“When a plasma bolt hits its target, tremendous levels of heat and energy are released, which destroys targets with an almighty explosion. A target hit by a plasma bolt suffers the dual effects of searing heat and explosive shock as its substance is instantly energised into boiling plasma.” Imperial Munitorum Manual, p.74 - **

Spoiler
“Plasma technology is rare and highly destructive, for both the enemy and the wielder. ‘Bolts’ of pure plasma explode upon impact with the fury of a supernova, scything through steel, flesh and bone as if it were nothing.” Codex: Imperial Guard (5e), p.69 - **

Spoiler
“Plasma weapons fire energy shells of bright glowing plasma – matter in a super-heated energised state. When a plasma shell strikes its target there is a tremendous release of energy and the target blows apart in an almighty explosion.” Necromunda Rulebook, p.37 - **

Spoiler
“Caduceia reached over and fired a blast of superheated plasma down the barricade, the stench of burned meat washing over her as three men disappeared in a crimson cloud of vaporised blood.” Daemon World, p.69 - **

- Plasma bolts are faster than Bolter rounds:
Spoiler
“Zatori’s pupils contracted rapidly as the blindingly bright bolt of plasma lanced out of the weapon’s barrel. Though not as fast as bursts from a lasgun, plasma bolts had a far greater muzzle velocity than the bolts fired by a bolt pistol or bolter, closing the distance from weapon to target in the merest fraction of an instant. The rock outcropping vanished in a flash of searing heat and explosive shock, sending a puff of atomised flint into the air, a small black cloud that lingered a few metres over the ground.” Sons of Dorn, p.128 - **

- Plasma weapons have multiple firing methods:
Spoiler
“Plasma weapons can be used in two firing modes: standard mode (the normal and safest method), or a higher-powered blast with a longer range and higher temperature.” Deathwatch Core Rulebook, p.147 - **

- Plasma bolts output temperatures that instantly turn stone to slag:
Spoiler
“‘Hear me, Blood Angels!’ Simeon’s voice called. ‘In the name of the red grail, turn back this tide-’
The captain’s words were cut short as a tiny supernova engulfed him, and wreaths of hot plasma turned the stone to slag around his feet. Rafen had a single, momentary vision of brilliant white, then Simeon’s ammunition packs detonated all at once and threw him aside in the shock wave.”
Blood Angels Omnibus, p.28 - **

- Plasma bolts output temperatures akin to solar flares:
Spoiler
“Plasma weapons work using hydrogen fuel suspended in a photonic state in either fuel flasks or backpack containers. As the fuel is fed into the miniature fusion core inside the weapon, the hydrogen energies into plasma, held in the core by powerful magnetic containment fields. When fired, the fields dilate open and the plasma is ejected via a linear magnetic accelerator in a bolt of superheated matter akin to a solar flare in appearance and temperature. For this reason plasma weapons are sometimes called ‘sun guns’ by the common population.” Deathwatch Core Rulebook, p.147 - **

III. Plasma Cannon
--------------------------------------------------------
- Bolts explode on impact:
Spoiler
“Plasma Cannons fire a plasma ‘bolt’ that explodes on impact, generating the destructive heat of a small sun.” Codex: Space Marines (5e), p.99 - ** || Codex: Blood Angels (5e), p.56 - **

- Heresy-era blast makes short work of a mausoleum:
Spoiler
“It fired. A horrendous stream of retina-burning light flared from the plasma cannon’s steaming nozzle, striking the side of one mausoleum and washing the white stone in superheated energy. The first stones touched by the kiss of the beam weapon were incinerated into nothingness, and the surrounding rock melted a heartbeat later. The wall ceased to exist, and the Cadians nearby broke cover and fled.” Cadian Blood, p.102 - **

“Another mausoleum wall ceased to exist under the cannon’s fury. This time, several of Darrick’s platoon were caught in the blast, dissolved by the plasma washing over them. Trooper Jova howled as his arm disintegrated and he stumbled out of his shattered cover to be scythed down by Remnant las-fire.” Cadian Blood, p.102 - **

- Makes short work of an Ork vehicle:
Spoiler
“With a deep thrumming, Brother Saboath charged up the plasma cannon. Coils glowed bluish-white with the build-up of energy and sparks danced from the vented muzzle of his weapon. Without haste, he altered his aim a little to the right. Nestor followed the muzzle of the gun and saw a squadron of war buggies racing recklessly up the slope, bouncing across rocks and narrow fissures. With an explosive wave of compressing air, Saboath fired. A miniature star erupted from the plasma cannon, casting harsh shadows as it flew down the slope to crash into the foremost buggy. The vehicle's engine block disintegrated in a shower of molten metal and super-heated fuel, the vapour of which ignited, engulfing the vehicle in a sheet of blue fire, incinerating the driver and gunner, melting the tyres and warping the chassis.” The Purging of Kadillus, p.126 - **

This should be Imperium plasma weapons, to distinguish from the Galactic Empire.

I will edit the titles to reflect 40K.

Spoiler

Spoiler
"A blinding burst of light erupted from the nozzle that fronted the Dreadnought's cumbersome weapon. The blazing ball of gas sizzled across the gardens, striking the cupola at its centre. Instantly the structure vanished in a great cloud of boiling nuclear malignance as the charged plasma reacted with the solid composition of the cupola. The sun gun immolated the excubitors who had fired upon the Dreadnought, reduced their heavy stubber to a molten smear and fused the cupola into something resembling a charred brick." - Victories of the space marines pg. 119

40k Lightsaber.

Spoiler
"A further mark of his favour in the Chapter, and a visible sign that he is heir presumptive to the rank of Chapter Master of the Fire Hawks, is the sword Excellus. An ancient power sword of unusual design, when active its blade is shrouded in white-hot plasma; a well-placed blow from Excellus can sear through the strongest armour and burn its victims to cinders." - Imperial Armour Volume Nine: The Badab War - Part One, Pg. 172
